Church #nofilter 9.4

Pray and read

Thank God for his word and his wisdom revealed in it. Ask God to work powerfully by his Spirit that you might grow in your love and knowledge of Jesus. Read Colossians 3:1-4.

In 1 Corinthians 6 Paul exhorts the Corinthians to put off sexual immorality because of their union with Christ and bodily resurrection. In Colossians Paul speaks more broadly of the implications of union with Christ and the present status of believers as those who have been raised with Christ.

What does Paul exhort the Colossians to do because of their sharing in Christ’s resurrection?

What kinds of things might Paul be referring to as the “things above”?

What reasons does Paul give them to back up his instructions?

How might setting you heart on things above assist in fleeing from temptation?

What can you do today to fix your heart on things above today? This week?

Praise God that we have been raised with Christ in his resurrection. Ask God to help you be who you are, fixing your heart on heavenly things. Pray that in doing so you’d be strengthened in putting off sin and putting on righteousness.
