Truth to Power: Joel Day 1

This focus of this week’s devotional set will be the book of Joel.  Scholars believe Joel was active in the 6th Century, BC and was probably from the Southern Kingdom.  Joel brought God’s word to the people of Judah and Jerusalem, emphasising the ‘day of the Lord’ and Yahweh’s sovereignty over all the nations.

This week’s devotions will have a different format, where we’ll use the same bible study method each day to help you think about the four passages.

Praise God for making himself known to us by his Son. Ask him to give you eyes that see, and a heart which responds with faith and thanksgiving.

Read Joel 1

Look out for these three things and write them down:

A light bulb: This should be something that ‘shines’ from the passage—whatever impacts most, or draws attention.

A question mark: Anything that is difficult to understand in the text, or a question the reader would like to ask the writer of the passage or the Lord.  Maybe it’s something you can ask your Growth Group or a friend.

An arrow: A personal application for your life.  Why does this passage matter to you now?

Pray: Pray through the application, asking for help as you apply it to your life and live it out in a response to God’s grace.
