I AM Week 17: Day 1

Praise God for making himself known to us by his Son. Ask him to give you eyes that see, and a heart which responds with faith and thanksgiving.

Read John 21: 1 - 14

Who is present in this account?  What is significant about these people?

How do you think the disciples were feeling as they returned to ‘normal life’ after the death and resurrection of their teacher?  Why do you think they went fishing?

How does Simon Peter react to the realisation that Jesus is standing on the shore?

Why do you think John added the details in verses 11 and 14?

The disciples have been on a roller coaster of emotions over the past week.  The thrill of the Palm Sunday entrance, the devastation of the Good Friday execution and the elation of Jesus’ resurrection must have all been a wrenching experience.   In many ways it makes sense that they wanted to take a break and do something ‘normal’ but Jesus has other plans as we’ll see from the rest of the chapter.

Why does an encounter with the risen Jesus mean we can’t go back to our old lives?  What difference does it make?

How does the reality of a risen Jesus impact on your everyday life?

Praise God for a risen saviour!

Ask God to help live out your life in light of a risen saviour.
