Kings Week 16: Day 4
Pray and read
Praise God for revealing himself by his word, and ask him to help you hear and respond to it with repentance and faith by his Spirit at work in you. Read 2 Kings 24:20 - 25:30.
King Zedekiah rebels against Babylon. How does the king of Babylon respond? What military tactic does he use? How long does the city take to fall?
What happens to King Zedekiah when Jerusalem falls?
A few years later, Babylonian officials return to Jerusalem. What is the state of Jerusalem when they are finished?
Do you think 2 Kings ends with hope? Why/ why not?
The book of Jeremiah ends in the same way as 2 Kings. Preceding the final chapter is Jeremiah’s final prophecy, which is regarding Babylon (see chps 50 - 51). How might this prophecy strengthen any hope at the end of the books?
We too have the hope of the destruction of our enemies, though our hope is much greater. Read 1 Corinthians 15:50-57. How might the hope we have of the destruction of sin and death enable you to keep going in following after Jesus?
Praise God that he has defeated his enemies on the cross.
Ask God to fill you with hope for the future – of life with him – that you might persevere in faith.
