Kings Week 16: Day 2
Pray and read
Praise God for revealing himself by his word, and ask him to help you hear and respond to it with repentance and faith by his Spirit at work in you. Read 2 Kings 23:1-30.
What does Josiah do in this chapter? Why do you think the author of Kings goes into such detail in his account?
What is God’s response to Josiah’s reforms? Why does he respond in this way? Is God just in his actions?
How does Josiah’s life end? How does the means of his death foreshadow what is to come?
Even Josiah, with all his reforms, is unable to save Judah from God’s judgement. In what way is Jesus different to Josiah? Read Romans 3:21-26.
As Christians we live with the tension of continuing to put off sin, while trusting in Jesus’ death on our behalf to save us.
Do you tend toward one end of that equation as you wrestle with sin in your life? How might the knowledge of God’s grace both assure you of forgiveness, and prompt you to change?
Give thanks to God for the death of his Son on your behalf.
Ask God to give your assurance of your salvation as you continue the fight to put off sin on your life.
