Kings Week 6: Day 2
Pray and read
Ask God to illuminate his word by his Spirit, that you will hear what it says and respond with faith and thanksgiving. Read1 Kings 12:25-33.
Having been made king by the people, how does Jeroboam consolidate his rule?
Which event from Israel’s past do the two golden calves call to mind (see Exodus 32)? What might the significance of the two in this passage?
What are the problems with the new worship Jeroboam establishes? Has Jeroboam listened to the Lord’s word to him in chapter 11 (verses 37-39)?
What is the attitude of the people toward the Lord? How might Solomon’s rule have contributed to their new attitude?
What is the nature of the worship Jesus has established for us? (You could look up Hebrews 10:19-25). How might you make the most of the access he has made available to us?
Praise God for the new and living way opened for us through Jesus’ blood shed on the cross.
Ask God to help you draw near to him, with the full assurance your sins have been forgiven.
