Kings Week 4: Day 1

Pray and read

Ask God to give you a soft heart, that as you read his word you will understand it, and respond to it with repentance and faith. Read 1 Kings 8:1-21.

In chapter 7, the temple is completed, including all its furnishings. Chapter 8 begins with the ark of the Lord’s covenant being brought to the temple.

What is the ark of the Lord’s covenant? What was its significance to the people of Israel (read  for more information, and 1 Samuel 4 – 6 if you’re really keen)?

Where is the ark’s place in the temple? Once in its place, what happens (v10-11)? Why is this significant?

Solomon sings a song of praise to the Lord. Which particular aspect of God’s character does he praise (v15, v20)?

Again, we see God’s faithfulness in keeping his promises to his people. How has God promised to dwell with us – Now (see Romans 8:1-17)? In the future (see Revelation 21:1-4)?

How does the knowledge that God dwells with his people give you comfort and hope?

Praise God that he keeps his promises.

Thank God for sending his Spirit to dwell amongst his people.

 Listen/ Sing

Great is thy faithfulness
