Jonah: Day 2

Pray and read

Ask God to give you a soft heart, that as you read his word you will understand it, and respond to it with repentance and faith. Read Jonah 2.

Having been cast into the ocean and swallowed by a large fish, Jonah finally cries out to the Lord.

What is Jonah’s cry?

How is the sea described in this poem; what is it like? How does Jonah speak about the sea in relation to himself? How does he speak about it in relation to the Lord?

How is Jonah’s attitude toward the Lord changed by his experience?

How does the Lord respond to Jonah’s cry?

Do you cry out to the Lord when you are in distress? How might poems like this one (and others in the Bible, e.g. the Psalms) help you?

Thank God that he is a merciful God who hears the cry of his people.
