Matthew Week 6: Day 4

Pray and read

Father, please help me to understand today’s passage – that I would know Jesus better, so that what he’s done for me would impact my thoughts, feelings and actions today. Read Matthew 26:1-2, 26-30

Jesus held up a cup, saying that it’s the blood of the covenant. Which covenant is he speaking of?

Read Jeremiah 31:31-34

What is the covenant that the LORD says he will replace? When was it made, what did it consist of, what happened to it? (see Exodus 19-24, especially 24:3-8). Is there a connection to the Passover?

What will the new covenant be like, compared to the old one?

How does Jesus say this covenant will begin?

What does it mean for you to be part of this new covenant, rather than the old covenant?

What will today look like for you, knowing that you’re a part of this covenant?

Thank you for making a new covenant with us through Jesus’ blood – that we can have forgiveness for our sins, and know you for ourselves. Please help me to live today in light of this covenant, and for insight to know what that looks like.
