Matthew Week 4: Day 1
Pray and read
Ask God to give you a soft heart, that as you read his word you will understand it, and respond to it with repentance and faith. Read Matthew 25:14-30.
This is the second in a series of three parables Jesus tells about the coming of the Son of Man. These parables are essentially riddles: intended to be perplexing.
What is your initial reaction to the parable? Do you think it’s fair? Why or why not?
Who are the characters in this parable? Who do you think each character might represent?
The master gives each of the servants a large sum of gold (each bag equivalent to 20 years wages!) What might the gold represent? Is there anything in this parable, or what we’ve read in Matthew so far which might help us work it out?
What do you think is the intended response for those who hear this parable? Who ought they to be like?
What would it look like to wait for the Lord Jesus to return like the first and second servant waited for their master?
Ask God to give you wisdom as you wait for the Lord Jesus to return, and the courage to serve him faithfully.
