Romans Week 7: Day 3
Read Romans 15: 25 – 33
Where is Paul going next? Why? (v25-26)
Why does Paul think the Gentiles should materially bless the Jews? (v27)
When will Paul visit the Romans? (v28)
What does Paul ask of the Romans in the meantime? (v30)
Paul reliance on God is clear from this passage, particularly in the closing verses. Paul makes special mention of God’s will in v32 for he knows that God’s plans may not match his own. Paul wrote/prayed something similar in Romans 1:10 in relation to his coming to the Romans. Paul was keenly aware that prayer was not bending God’s will to ours but rather aligning our will to his.
Read 1 John 5:14
The promise of our prayers being answered is conditional on our asking ‘according to his will’. Jesus knew this too when he taught his disciples to pray ‘your will be done on earth as it is in heaven’. Our prayers should therefore be shaped by what is important to God and his kingdom, not our own.
Read Matthew 6:9 – 13
Take some time to read each line and pray accordingly.
