Romans Week 5: Day 1

Pray and Read

Ask God for a humble and teachable heart to submit to his Word, and wisdom to understand his ways and purposes.

Read Romans 13:1-7

What instructions does Paul give to the Roman church?

What reasons does he give for these instructions? Why are they important for the church to follow?

Romans 12:1-2 is an overarching statement of Christians’ worship of God, from which chapters 12-16 follow.

How does 13:1-7 relate to how Christians worship God?

Do you currently have anything to fear from the government? Is there anything you need to repent of, and make amends for?

Are you giving to the government what you owe: taxes, revenue, respect and honour?

Why are these things important to God?

How can you make them important to you?

Thank God for the government, and the good things they do.

Ask God to grow them in wisdom, integrity, goodness and kindness (1 Tim 2:1-4).

Repent of any wrongs against the government you have made: breaking the law, withholding taxes or respect. Ask God to help you make things right with the government.

Ask God for wisdom to know how to honour him in the way you relate to the government.

Ask God for an attitude of willing submission to the government as part of your worship of him.
