Romans Week 15: Day 4

Read: Romans 8:28-30

Finally, we come to the passage that we will hear on Sunday. Each of the previous three devotionals have wrestled with a topic that is brought up in these few verses and will hopefully help you to understand them better.

God works for the good of those who love him. Looking at Paul’s life in 2 Corinthians 11:16-29, would you say that Paul had a comfortable life?

  • What was the good that God worked in Paul’s life? Why is it not as obvious as Paul’s life looking ‘perfect’?

Christians have been predestined (chosen) to be like Jesus, the firstborn over all creation.

  • How will we be made like Jesus?
  • How will we be different to Jesus?

Read through the chain in verse 30. Each of the verbs are in the past tense. You have been chosen, called, justified and glorified. Does it feel like these things have already happened to you?

Looking back over your life, does it feel like you have been chosen by God?

Is there anything that has happened in your life that makes you think otherwise?

We have already been chosen, called, justified and glorified. Does this change how you will act today?

  • How does being part of God’s family make you want to act?
  • How does already being justified and glorified change you attitude towards life?

Thank God that he knows all things and that he has adopted you into his family, and justifying and glorifying you with His Son.
Pray that he would help you to live out your calling and be an example of God’s love, mercy and grace in a world that has turned its back on him.

Pray that each day God would make you more like his son Jesus.
