Romans Week 12: Day 4

Read: Romans 7:7-25 focusing on verses 24-25

Recap: what is the position of the man in chapter 7? Who does he represent?

What is the problem spelled out at the end of verse 25? How are our best efforts to obey the law thwarted by the power of sin?

What solution does Paul present?

How does Jesus deliver his followers from death?

Read: Galatians 5:1,16-18

What is the hope of the man completely aware of his sin and his brokenness? There is no hope in himself, there is no positive thinking philosophy, no self-help program, no set of rules that can rescue from death. The only one we can find hope in for new life and to be freed from the power of sin is the Lord Jesus. Reflect on his words in John 8:34-36 and may they speak life to you. If the son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Do you see yourself in the description of the man in chapter 7? If you have not yet made a commitment to follow Jesus, consider talking to a Christian friend or someone from church about what it means to be rescued by the Son of God.

Are there places in your life where you find it difficult to ask Jesus for help? Perhaps start by praying for help and then approach a trusted friend who can pray and talk with you.

…thankfulness to God, who did not leave us stuck in the wretchedness of our sin, and pray that we would live in the freedom that comes when Jesus sets us free.
