Kings Week 11: Day 4
Pray and Read
Plead with God to open your heart and reveal what he’s saying to you through the passage today, and for feet that are swift to obey. Read 2 Kings 10:18-36.
What was Jehu’s strategy for ridding Israel of Baal-worship?
Was he successful?
Did he put a stop to all idolatry in Israel? (2 Kings 10:29)
Was Jehu a good king or a bad one? (10:30-31)
What were the consequences for Israel’s persistence of idolatry? (10:32-33)
Read Acts 17:22-31
Why does God hate idolatry?
What must humanity do in response to their idolatry? What will God do in response to their idolatry?
Read Ephesians 5:5-20
Other than worshipping silver, gold and stone figures, what else can idolatry look like?
Have you committed idolatry? Are you still committing it? Is this consistent with who God has made you to be in Christ? (see v8)
How did you become a ‘child of light’? Was it by something you did? Why does the passage finish with thankfulness to God?
What does it look like to live in the light? (be specific).
Ask God for forgiveness for the idolatry you’ve committed.
Thank God for his assurance of grace in Jesus, and for his amazing love that can never be taken away from you.
Ask God to help you live out who he’s made you to be: a child of light.
