Kings Week 10: Day 2
Pray and read
Ask God to illuminate his word by his Spirit, that you will hear what it says and respond with faith and thanksgiving. Read 2 Kings 3 - 4.
The king of Israel, Joram, goes to war to defend Israel against an attack by Mesha king of Moab. He calls on Jehoshaphat king of Judah to join him.
What differences to you notice between Joram and Jehoshaphat, particularly with respect to their trust of the LORD?
The LORD delivers Moab into Israel’s hands. What do you make of the king of Moab’s response? What might you infer about the gods the king of Moab worships?
What kinds of things does Elisha do in his ministry in these chapters? How do they remind you of Elijah? How do they remind you of Jesus?
What possible explanations can you think of for Elisha (and Elijah) to do such miraculous things? What might you infer about the LORD by Elisha’s miracles?
Jesus does many similarly spectacular miracles in the gospels (e.g. Mark 5:21-43; 6:30-56). What do Jesus miracles demonstrate about him (you might to read Luke 7:18-28 and 11:14-28)? How is Jesus different to Elisha and Elijah? How ought you respond to Jesus as a result?
Praise God for sending the king of his kingdom, the Lord Jesus, and for the hope of restoration found in him.
Ask God to bring on the Lord Jesus' return, that his kingdom might come in its fullness, and pray that you might wait patiently until that day.
