Pray and read

Thank God for his Word that you’ll read today, ask for help to cherish it, understand it, and apply it. Read 1 Kings 6.

Most Israelites would not have seen the inside of the inner sanctuary (priests’ area), and we will never see the temple, except possibly through archeology.  What would we miss if we didn’t have this description?

How does it compare to the tabernacle’s construction? (Read Exodus 26)

Read 1 Kings 6:11-13. What is the purpose of the temple? How does this compare to what we saw on Day 1 as the purpose for the tabernacle?

Read 1 Kings 7. What is the purpose of Solomon’s palace? How does this compare to the temple’s purpose?

What do you think is the significance of Solomon spending 13 years on his palace, and 7 years on the temple?

Bonus question if time: How do the furnishings of the temple compare to the furnishings of the tabernacle? Are any new? Are any the same pieces? (Exodus 25-30)

Read 1 Corinthians 3:9-14. Since Jesus’ ascension, who is the temple now?

What’s this new temple’s foundation, and who laid it? How?

What does this mean for how we should view church buildings and church congregations?

Has our church been laid with Jesus as our foundation? How would you know?

Pray

Dear God, thank you for honouring your church with your presence, and help us to continue to grow on the firm foundation of Jesus. Please help us to be changed by your presence, and demonstrate who you are to a world that doesn’t know you.

Sing/Listen

Cornerstone (Hillsong), music, lyrics. (See if you can sing ‘our’ and ‘we’ instead of ‘my’ and ‘I’ so it’s about us as a church).
