Matthew Week 9: Day 3
Pray and read
Ask God to be at work by his Spirit as you read his word that you might grow in love, loyalty and likeness to the Lord Jesus. Read Acts 2:14-41.
Following Jesus’ ascension into heaven, the disciples obeyed his command and begun the task of making disciples. This is Peter’s first sermon, at Pentecost.
Who is Peter speaking to as he preaches this sermon? How does Peter take his audience into account in the content of his sermon?
What facts does he give them about the events that have happened (vv. 22-24)?
How does he explain the significance of these events from the Scriptures? What is the argument he makes about David? What conclusion does he draw about who Jesus is?
What is the response Peter directs his hearers to take?
Think of the people you might have opportunity to speak with of your faith. What background understanding might they have of the Christian faith? How might that background affect how you’d explain what you believe to them?
Thank God that he uses us to grow his kingdom.
Pray for the people you know who don’t know the Lord Jesus. Ask for opportunity to share your faith with them, and wisdom to share the gospel in a way that they can understand.
