Romans Week 7: Day 4

Read: Romans 3:21-31 focusing on vv. 29-31

Explore:

God justifies both Jew and Gentile through the same means: by faith. Does this mean we can abolish the law?

Read Matthew 22:34-40

What is the purpose of the law according to Jesus?

How do we continue to uphold the law?

Apply:

Jesus is the only human to have perfectly kept God’s law. He didn’t come to abolish the law, but to uphold it.  As Christians, we respond to God’s saving love by following Jesus’ example of upholding the law.  In following Jesus’ example, although imperfect and insufficient for salvation, we too uphold the law and recognise its importance in helping us understand God’s will and standard.

Are you aware of times when you have failed to follow the example Jesus has set?

How do you view God’s law?  Do you see it as restrictive or something that is helpful for understanding that God is holy?

Pray:

Thank God for his perfect son, who died for you and me

Ask God to help you see that his law and commands are good things, in place to help you live for him
