Week 5: Day 2

Read: 1 Samuel 14:1-23

Explore:

What do Jonathan’s actions say about his faith in God? How does God win the victory for Jonathan?

How do Saul’s actions contrast with Jonathan’s?

We see that Saul counts all the men, and takes the ark with him. What do these actions say about Saul’s faith? How is it similar to the way the Israelites viewed the ark in chapter 4?

Apply:

The type of  victory that  Jonathan and his armour-bearer helped win against the Philistines is another example of God using the weak to defeat the strong (see 1 Samuel 2:1-11). God uses the faithful Jonathan to win the victory, instead of Saul and his soldiers who had placed their trust in a created object (the ark).

Meditate on 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 and how God works through Jesus so that we cannot boast in our own power.

Pray:

·      That fear would not overcome your trust in God

·      For faithfulness to Jesus despite opposition and your own weakness
