God has been so kind to us, primarily in the provision of his only, beloved Son. He has also blessed us by sheer grace with gifts, abilities and resources that we can use to bless others.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” – Galatians 6:10

At Providence City, we are committed to being great neighbours. We want to see Perth and its people flourish. And we seek to let the Bible set the agenda for how we will pursue these things.

“Let us do good to all people…”

This desire finds expression in our aspiration to embody Jesus' ethic of love in everyday life. We strive to 'make culture' that gives life - in local communities, the workforce and the arts.

But in particular, we are committed to serving those in need in practical ways. God has cleansed our hearts, and now we get our hands dirty!

That is to say - a regular part of our church life involves spending time doing things like cooking meals for foster parents or doing some cleaning for people facing tough times.

“…especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

But we are conscious of the pitfalls of concerning ourselves only with the material needs of those who are not a part of our church or the church.

So, we strive to honour the balance of the New Testament teaching in whom we help and how we help: anyone who has need, as we are able, with special regard for our Christian brothers and sisters.

The ‘body-building’ care – practical assistance for Providence members doing it tough – happens primarily through our growth groups along with the staff and elders.

Individuals at Providence also serve those outside the church family in many different ways, much of it ‘organic’ and not centrally organised. However, we have found it helpful to have some formal channels through which Providence people can more easily be connected with needs in the broader community.

Providence is formally involved in two programs by which we offer practical assistance to people in Perth:

-        Wanslea Foster Friends

-        Providence NeighbourCare (supported by Australian Mercy)
